I got a request this week from a friend for suggestions for a perfect place for her to take a group of women who are in need of some healing. I initially sent her my favorite Getaway destinations that were in her price range and distance that she was comfortable with. Then she told me she was looking for more of a retreat type setting. Well, this got me investigating retreat centers around Georgia. There are many perfectly peaceful locations that are just waiting for groups to come and bring life and love to their beautiful grounds. Here is a list of some of what I found (in no particular order)-
Enota Mountain Retreat, Hiawassee, GA - A full service venue with space for 250 and it's own organic farms Enota has been featured recently on both
Georgia Traveler and
Georgia's Hidden Treasures.
Strong Rock Camp, Cleveland, GA - Sitting on 250 acres of the Chattahoochee National Forest peace and tranquility surround you. The cabins are some of the finest "camp" style cabins I have seen.
Center for New Beginnings, Dahlonega, GA -
There are 30 guest rooms with 64 bed capacity. At the Center for New Beginnings, you will not be "roughing it". There are no bunk beds in Spartan cabins. All rooms at the Center are comfortably furnished, each with heating and air and clean linens provided.
Epworth by the Sea, St. Simon's Island, GA - This Christian Conference and Retreat Center Overlooking the Frederica River on beautiful St. Simon's Island looks more like a beach resort than a conference center.
Tumbling Waters Retreat and Conference Center, Clayton, GA - Tumbling Waters was named Official Best of Conference Resort in 2009. 122 acres include a lake with boating, heated swimming pool, 4 tennis courts, 3 basketball courts, an outdoor amphitheater, sports fields, low ropes course, climbing wall, Alpine Tower, challenge course, and on-site waterfall. They offer a combination of on-site, heated cabins and hotel lodgings, and can house up to 500 guests. Rates are all-inclusive, and feature our delicious, plentiful on-site meals, modern lodging and meeting space.
Many retreat centers double as camps during the summer months but offer great getaways for retreats Oct - May. Although they maybe affiliated with a specific religion do not let that scare you away from looking into a certain center - all seem to be very open to groups of all faiths using their beautiful facilities! More to come, too many to fit in one post!
